(Andina) Peruvian President Alan Garcia’s approval rating in Lima reached 35 percent in February according to the latest survey conducted by Institute for Public Opinion (IOP) at the Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Peru.

(Andina) Peruvian President Alan Garcia’s approval rating in Lima reached 35 percent in February according to the latest survey conducted by Institute for Public Opinion (IOP) at the Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Peru.

Garcia’s support has remained stable over the past months. The survey reveals that the presidential approval rating increased by 33 percent in December last year, and by 36 percent in January, 2010.

On the other hand, 58 percent of respondents say democracy is preferable to any other form of government. Meanwhile some 53 percent express the belief that their own economic situation will improve moderately or significantly within 12 months, another 32 percent think it will remain the same and only 6 percent believe it will get worse or much worse.

At the macroeconomic level, 38 percent of respondents said the current economic situation is much or somewhat better than twelve months ago, 39 percent noted that it remains the same and 21 percent say the situation has gotten worse or much worse.
