Peru celebrates. The national film “The Milk of Sorrow” by the director Claudia Llosa has become the first Peruvian film to be nominated for the Oscar Awards from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Hollywood.

 

Peru celebrates. The national film “The Milk of Sorrow” by the director Claudia Llosa has become the first Peruvian film to be nominated for the Oscar Awards from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Hollywood.

 

Titled as "The Milk of Sorrow" (originally titled “La Teta Asustada”), the national film was nominated for the “Best Foreign Language Film" category, and the name of Peru resounded worldwide.

Actress Anne Hathaway  was who read  the nomination: "The Milk of Sorrow, from Peru," she said, accompanied by the President of the Academy Awards, Tom Sherak.

The film starred by actress Magaly Solier, displays the terrible story of thousands of women raped during the years of internal war and terrorism in Peru, since 1980 to the year 2000, and the so called disease "the frightened breast", which these women will pass on to their children through milk.

With the direction of Claudia Llosa, this film will compete with Argentina’s "The secret in their eyes," (El secreto de sus ojos”) directed by Juan Jose Campanella, and three other films. A total of five productions compete in this category.
